Dr Éric Cheysson, President of La Chaîne de l’Espoir
Pr Alain Deloche, Founder of La Chaîne de l’Espoir

Mobilized since 1994

La Chaîne de l’Espoir was born of indignation: what is obvious in France – to benefit from a surgical operation or simple access to healthcare – is not so in many countries around the world.
Driven by the conviction that it is impossible to abandon to their fate the millions of children around the world deprived of medical care, Professor Alain Deloche created La Chaîne de l’Espoir in 1994. Over the years, our organization has established itself as a major player in international healthcare.

Our areas of expertise

La Chaîne de l’Espoir is active in nearly thirty countries, with a priority focus on vulnerable people, especially children and women. We favor an approach in which our interventions are fully integrated into the local healthcare system, and work closely with local teams to empower them.

To achieve this, our volunteer doctors, nurses and technicians operate and provide training in the techniques best suited to the needs and contexts involved.
We put in place the structural resources needed for surgery, both material (hospital construction, equipment) and human (medical and surgical paramedical skills, techniques).

Upstream, we invest in prevention and screening. We work in close partnership with all healthcare players (local authorities, hospitals, international institutions, associations, companies) to provide a coordinated response and ensure a lasting impact on the living conditions of vulnerable people.

Our commitments

1

Giving the most disadvantaged children access to excellent medicine

La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s expertise in care and surgery enables us to operate and train in the techniques best adapted to the needs and contexts. We develop the material and human resources required for surgery, with a view to improving access to care and supporting local healthcare systems.

We treat people without discrimination of race, nationality, gender or religion, and with respect for the individual. Wherever we operate, we strive to offer the most disadvantaged the highest quality of care and medical excellence.

2

Promoting long-term solutions and medical empowerment

We are mobilized to give local health establishments and medical staff the means to care for their country’s children themselves. We do this by building hospitals, transferring medical technology and providing equipment and consumables in countries where health facilities are inadequate. Our action responds to a real need, adapted to the reality of the country and identified by the health authorities, our partners and the local populations themselves.
We work in close collaboration with local medical teams. We aim toempower doctors and paramedical teams through training, financial, human and logistical support.
Our aim is to provide a local response to local needs.

3

Working with integrity, accountability and transparency

We assist vulnerable populations with humanity and respect for medical ethics. Our actions are carried out with complete neutrality and impartiality, and do not favor any party in an armed or other conflict. To fulfill its missions, La Chaîne de l’Espoir relies on public generosity and institutional funding. Attentive to offering total transparency in the management of donations received, it complies with regular checks on its activities. It has also been awarded the Don en Confiance label, which attests to the implementation of best practices in terms of financial management and transparency. Our strategy

For the past thirty years, La Chaîne de l’Espoir has been working to redress the injustice of the place of birth and give every child access to quality care. Deployment in crisis zones, development of field teams to meet local challenges, reinforcement of human and material resources aimed at developing surgical autonomy: in order to implement its vision for the future, our association defines its priority actions for the 2023-2026 period in its strategic plan.
