Le fil de l’Espoir #19 ” 30 ans : La Chaîne de l’Espoir & moi ” (in French)

30 years of commitment and hope

This year, La Chaîne de l’Espoir celebrates its 30th anniversary. Since the first transfer of a child to France – Gervais, a young Senegalese suffering from heart disease – and the first surgical missions to Cambodia in 1994, we’ve come a long way! Today, on average, more than 5,000 children benefit from surgery every year in every corner of the world. And, by 2022, our training and awareness programs will have reached over 170,000 people.

This success is the fruit of the mobilization and unfailing support of every link in our chain: volunteer healthcare professionals on mission at the other end of the world to train their counterparts, caring host families, generous donors and partners, volunteers working in our branches and salaried teams in France and abroad.

As we celebrate these successes, our eyes are on the future, determined to extend our help to every child deprived of proper care. In 2024, two emblematic achievements will mark our 30th anniversary. Firstly, the inauguration of the Sinjar hospital in Iraq, which will offer quality care to all, and in particular the Yezidi community, victims of an appalling genocide, back on their land. Then, the first open-heart surgery in Madagascar, continuing our commitment to pave the way for cardiac surgery in new countries. As emergencies intensify around the world, we are also stepping up our humanitarian action to provide vital support where it is most needed.

Our commitment remains unwavering: to save the lives of children, women and vulnerable people around the world.

This thirtieth anniversary is also yours: thank you for being with us all these years. Your support is our strength. Together, let’s continue to make a difference.
