La Chaîne de l’Espoir is mobilizing for the victims of the conflict betweenAzerbaijan and Armenia.
Paris, October 7, 2020
Alerted by Dr Levon KHACHATRYAN, cardiac surgeon at the AP-HP, La Chaîne de l’Espoir will initially provide support by donating emergency equipment (including electric scalpels and a portable ventilator).
A team of 6 surgeons (cardiac, orthopedic and reconstructive) will leave Paris with the equipment.
The mission, which will run from Monday October 12 to 19, will have two main objectives: to care for the many wounded, many of them children, who were victims of the bombardments and are suffering from polytrauma or burns.
The most seriously injured have been transferred to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, where part of the medical team will remain on site to treat them. The other part of the missionaries will travel to Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, to assess the health situation on site and treat the wounded civilians as far as possible.
Other surgeon missions will take turns as needed. Chaîne de l’Espoir also plans to send additional equipment, including consumables and medicines, in the coming days.
