La Chaîne de l’Espoir is donating new bio-medical equipment worth a total of 145,000 euros to help the Hôpital du Mali in Bamako strengthen its technical facilities and provide optimum technical conditions for the surgical care of children.

A ceremony to hand over the biomedical equipment will be held on Monday August 30 at Hôpital du Mali, in the presence of representatives of the cooperation partners: the Malian Ministry of Health, represented by the Minister of Health and Social Development, Ms Diéminatou SANGARE, the management of Hôpital du Mali, represented by its Director, Mr Ousmane ATTAHER, and La Chaîne de l’Espoir.

This state-of-the-art equipment will be used in the operating theatre (anaesthesia machines, monitors), the intensive care unit (respirators, monitors, ultrasound scanners, ventilators, etc.) and for the treatment of COVID patients (Optiflow high-flow oxygenation machines) managed by Professor DIANI. This equipment will also enable better surgical management of children suffering from caustic stenosis of the oesophagus after ingesting caustic soda. These essential surgical operations for children are carried out by Professor Sadio YENA’s teams.

As part of its training and support programs, La Chaîne de l’Espoir will assist the Mali Hospital’s bio-medical team with equipment installation, start-up, operation and maintenance.

This equipment handover marks a further step in the cooperation between Mali Hospital and La Chaîne de l’Espoir – a cooperation that has already proved its worth with the comprehensive program for the care of children suffering from caustic esophageal burns started in 2019.

This new equipment will benefit patients in intensive care or suffering from severe forms of COVID-19, children requiring esophageal plasty and, more generally, patients with esophageal pathologies.
