World Mental Health Day 2022

Mental health awareness and management day.

As defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. Without mental health and well-being, there can be no true health.

That’s why every year on October 10, World Mental Health Day is celebrated to highlight the importance of awareness and treatment of mental disorders: anxiety, personality and mood disorders, bipolarity, depression…

What’s at stake on World Mental Health Day?

The mental health problems described by the WHO include mental disorder and psychosocial disability, but also other psychological disorders associated with significant suffering, impaired functioning or risk of self-aggressive behavior. Good mental health, on the other hand, is defined as a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, such as illness, to learn or work well, or to contribute to community life. Good mental health is an integral part of health and well-being.

The main aim of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness among as many people as possible in order toimprove policies for the prevention and management of mental disorders and all mental health-related pathologies.

What does La Chaîne de l’Espoir do to promote mental health?

One of La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s priorities in the field of mental health is to improve the well-being of children in their daily lives in hospital. During their stay in hospital, children are often far from their loved ones, and therefore disconnected from their family environment. To make up for this absence and contribute to the overall improvement of the child’s care, La Chaîne de l’Espoir volunteers provide personalized support for varying lengths of time to hospitalized children in France.

In parallel with our work in France, La Chaîne de l’Espoir provides psychosocial assistance to children and their families in Jordan. During our missions, we accompany the parents and the children themselves, helping them to identify their various disorders and supporting them in the ordeals that impact their mental health…
