International Children’s Rights Day 2024

Millions of children around the world are still deprived of their fundamental rights. Every November 20, the International Day of Children's Rights reminds us of the importance of guaranteeing access to health care for all children. La Chaîne de l'Espoir has been committed to this goal for 30 years.

A engagement for a afuture me better

Every year, November 20 marks International Children’s Rights Day. This date corresponds to the adoption of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the United Nations General Assembly. Since 1989, the CRC has aimed to guarantee every child in the world the right to protection, education and health, as well as the right to express his or her views and to be heard. This commitment is more relevant than ever, particularly for the millions of vulnerable children from impoverished regions and conflict zones, as well as for those who are victims of violence, harassment and, more generally, all types of child abuse.

La Chaîne de l’Espoir : un acteur mobilisé pour les enfants

Since 30 years, La Chaîne de l’Espoir works tirelessly to improve the lives of children around the world, by providing l’access to the healthcare they need. Every year, thousands of children benefit from medical care. through the actions we carry out. In this Journée des droits ofenfant, La Chaîne de l’Espoir reaffirms its commitmentthe right to health of children cannot and must not be neglected. Thanks to our actions in 2023, 3,516 children had access to healthcare at theFrench Medical Institute for Mother and Child in Kabul. In the same year, over 10,000 children received medical and psychosocial support in Nepal.

Despite the progress made in recent decades, millions of children around the world are still deprived of their fundamental rights. Armed conflict, poverty, malnutrition, lack of access to education and health – these are just some of the challenges that need to be tackled to ensure a dignified future for all children.

How International Children’s Rights Day?

Aoday more than everwe must all mobilize to defend children’s rights. Among these fundamental rights include the right to access quality health care. In this end-of-year, La Chaîne de l’Espoir is highlighting how difficult it is for some children to access vital operationsa difficulty that all too often translates into a long wait with a fatal outcome. For lack oflack of medical facilities, trained personnel or because of costintervention too high, their lives are in peril.
