Corrida de Noël: a 2020 edition connected to solidarity

Corrida de Noël 2020: runners and walkers in solidarity in Issy-les-Moulineaux

In view of the current health context marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of the Corrida de Noël was entirely connected. Despite this, the objectives of this sporting and solidarity-based event proposed by the town of Issy-les-Moulineaux (Île-de-France) were unchanged: to promote the practice of a sporting activity, to offer an end-of-year event and to provide support for partner charities including La Chaîne de l’Espoir.

Runners and walkers turned out in force

Despite the unusual and unprecedented conditions of this 100% connected edition, the residents ofIssy-les-Moulineaux turned out in large numbers for this annual event. In fact, 300 participants, young and old, took part in this moment of sharing, rich in sporting challenges, conviviality and solidarity. In all, the participants ran or walked a total of 500 kilometers!

Christmas Corrida supports La Chaîne de l’Espoir

In addition to the kilometers covered, the Christmas Corrida, which ran from December 1 to 24, was also an opportunity to support four charities, including La Chaîne de l’Espoir. Thanks to the runners and walkers taking part in the event, 1,300 euros were donated.

But why do we call it “bullfighting”?

Although it bears the same name as the arena fight between a man and a bull, corrida also refers to a road race. The name actually comes froma famous Brazilian race – “race” is Portuguese for “corrida” – which takes place every year on December 31. The term “corrida” was soon used in France to designate a race taking place during the Christmas season, such as the Corrida de Noël d’Issy-les-Moulineaux.
