08/09/2021 – FOR LEE, OUR CHAIN OF HOPE HAS NEVER BEEN MORE APTLY NAMED

Mariela, open-heart surgery in Madagascar

As the mother of little Lee, now aged 2 and a half, so beautifully puts it, “Sometimes life is beautiful after hardship. I still don’t believe this story. But when I see my son’s smile, I know it’s true”. With a double heart defect diagnosed by Dominican nuns working at his village dispensary, Lee was on borrowed time.

Sister Elisabeth, our long-standing friend who works in the Children’s Pavilion we built in Ho Chi Minh City, arranged for the boy and his family to be welcomed there before and after the operation that saved his life.

Lee now has a brand-new heart and is finally cured. He will be able to grow up normally among his family and live life to the full as a child. Thank you so much for your generosity.

02/16/2021 – A chain of solidarity to save Lee

Lee is waiting at the Children’s Pavilion

Thanks to examinations carried out by Dominican nuns in his village at the Phu Xuân dispensary in southern Vietnam, the verdict was in and there was no longer any doubt as to the seriousness of his condition.

Far from giving up, his parents decided to take Lee and his older brother to the Children’s Pavilion in Hô Chi Minh City, the capital, 150 km from Phu Xuân. This Pavilion, also run by Dominican nuns, is the ideal complement to the Heart Institute built in Vietnam by La Chaîne de l’Espoir, where sick children are welcomed with their parents for examinations and for the duration of their convalescence after much-needed surgery. A real ray of hope for little Lee and his family!

Hope for a cure depends on you

Only surgery can save Lee’s life. Fortunately, Dr Phuong, a heart surgeon trained in Paris by Professor Alain Deloche, knows how to repair hearts.

However, Lee’s parents have only modest incomes: his father, a landless farmer, tries to rent out his labor every day, and his mother looks after the children. His family is therefore unable to finance this double heart operation, which represents an incompressible cost of 3,500 euros and is essential to his survival.

But with your support and generosity, nothing is impossible, and Lee’s heart can finally be repaired, giving this little child a new life and a new destiny.
