Mauritania: first children to undergo open-heart surgery

La Chaîne de l'Espoir's very first surgical mission to Mauritania took place from April 3 to 10.
Nine doctors and nurses, mainly from the Necker-Enfants Malades hospital in Paris, assisted the medical-surgical team at the National Cardiology Center (CNC) in Nouakchott.

Six children benefited from open-heart surgery. In Mauritania, there is currently no surgical treatment for pediatric cardiac pathologies.

This mission is part of a three-year program aimed at making the CNC team autonomous in their management. Three to four missions are planned each year.
