At the age of two, Elias was suffering from shortness of breath and stunted growth due to a serious heart defect. Hard hit by their country’s terrible economic crisis, his parents found themselves helpless in the face of the situation.
Thanks to your support, their little boy was operated on by Professor Victor Jebara at the Hôtel-Dieu de France hospital in Beirut, a long-standing partner of La Chaîne de l’Espoir.

In Lebanon, in the midst of an economic crisis, difficulties are on the increase, the system is collapsing and healthcare staff are struggling to meet the needs of the population, as some of them are leaving the country. However, Elias’s parents have only one hope: to save their son.
Elias has severe breathing difficulties
The little boy, aged 2 and a half, lives in Hermel, in Mount Lebanon in the north-east of the country. After a 6-hour bus journey to the capital Beirut, he was admitted to hospital with a heart murmur that was discovered by chance. The diagnosis revealed a serious heart defect: an interventricular septal defect.
Only an operation can save his life!
Our friend Prof. Victor Jébara, Head of Cardiovascular Surgery at theHôtel-Dieu de France Hospital in Lebanon, will be able to save little Elias. Thanks to this operation, his blood circulation will be restored and Elias will be able to breathe again immediately.
However, this open-heart surgery has an incompressible cost of 6,000 euros. In the face of this severe economic crisis, her family is unable to finance the costs. The father has lost his job and the mother is looking after her 7 other children. How could they possibly raise such a sum?
