International Nurses’ Day 2023: La Chaîne de l’Espoir committed to this profession

It's International Nurses Day!

Today, May 12, 2023, is International Nurses Day, and this year’s theme is: ” Our nurses. Our future. “. The aim is to ensure that this profession is better regarded. At La Chaîne de l’Espoir, we can only subscribe to this goal, as the role played by nurses is essential to our actions.

Nurses Day 2023: “Our nurses. Our future.”

In 2022, the theme chosen for May 12 was: ” The nursing profession: a voice for leadership – Investing in nursing and respecting rights to ensure global health “. This year, the International Council of Nurses (ICN), which represents over 20 million nurses worldwide, has chosen the theme: ” Our nurses. Our future. “. The aim of this new theme is to ” consider nurses no longer as invisible performers, but as irreplaceable partners “, as expressed by ICN President Dr Pamela Cipriano.

Nurses’ Day: a key role for La Chaîne de l’Espoir

Unsurprisingly, at La Chaîne de l’Espoir, the theme chosen for the 2023 edition of International Nurses’ Day has met with a favorable response.

And this response is all the more favorable because volunteer nurses play a key role on several levels:

  • Training: one of the pillars of our association’s activities, training benefits not only doctors and surgeons, but also the nursing staff present in our various intervention zones,
  • Before and after surgery for sick children: whether before or after the actual operation, nurses ensure that the operating room is set up properly, monitor and manage consumables, and provide psychological support for children and their families,
  • Children’s operations: during humanitarian missions run by La Chaîne de l’Espoir, volunteer nurses work alongside their local counterparts to perform operations on children suffering from cardiac, orthopedic or maxillofacial pathologies.
