Senegal: Malian health professionals trained in Dakar

Three Malian healthcare professionals trained in Dakar at the Centre cardiopédiatrique Cuomo strengthen their skills in post-operative care, ultrasound and extracorporeal circulation, in a spirit of sharing and regional cooperation.

During the summer of 2024, three Malian healthcare professionals from the Centre André Festoc de l’Hôpital Mère-Enfant ‘Le Luxembourg’ in Bamako spent three months training at the Centre cardiopédiatrique Cuomo in Dakar, Senegal.

Supervised by their Senegalese counterparts, two nurses and an anesthesiologist perfected their skills in transesophageal echography, post-operative resuscitation and management of extracorporeal circulation (essential for open-heart surgery).

“We were impressed not only by the ease with which knowledge was passed on and shared, but also by the sense of humor and hospitality of our Senegalese colleagues,” says Dr. Salia Ismaila Traoré, anesthesiologist-resuscitator.

This training is part of a dynamic of knowledge transmission : the Senegalese teams, themselves trained with the support of La Chaîne de l’Espoir, extend the chain of sharing.
