Senegal: expertise that extends throughout West Africa

In recent months, two ceremonies have been held to demonstrate La Chaîne de l'Espoir's commitment to Senegal.

In early 2023, La Chaîne de l’Espoir celebrated the completion of the 1,000th open-heart operation at the Centre Cardio-Pédiatrique Cuomo (CCPC) in Dakar.

Open since 2017, the CCPC has become a reference center for the management of cardiac pathologies in children in Senegal of course, but also and more widely in West Africa.

In addition, to reinforce thepractical training of biomedical engineering students, La Chaîne de l’Espoir has also provided equipment for the study laboratory at the Université Polytechnique de l’Ouest Africain (UPOA) in Dakar, due to open in the 1st quarter of 2023. UPOA offers the only biomedical engineering training program in West Africa.

To share this expertise with hospitals in Senegal and throughout the region, the association is also building up a local pool of young qualified biomedical engineers and technicians.
