Nepal: La Chaîne de l’Espoir takes action against menstrual taboo
Our actions in favor of young girls limit school dropout during menstruation.
In Nepal, many girls don’t have access to sanitary protection, which means they miss several days a month of school when their periods start.
In a country where girls’ enrolment rates are lower than those of boys, this situation exacerbates discrimination against girls.
In collaboration with the local association Child Protection Centers and Services (CPCS), we distribute free sanitary towels.
We also run awareness-raising campaigns in 41 health centers to break down taboos and enable young girls to continue attending school during their periods. Every month, over 4,500 girls benefit from CPCS actions, and 1,000 to 2,000 menstrual kits are distributed.
