La Chaîne de l’Espoir distributes hygiene kits in Madagascar
As part of its activities in Madagascar, La Chaîne de l’Espoir carries out oral health awareness campaigns for children in several regions, to explain the link betweenoral hygiene and heart disease, and thus prevent the risk of inflammation and infection.
During these awareness-raising sessions, oral hygiene kits consisting of a toothbrush, cup, toothpaste and soap are distributed to the children. These actions are carried out in close collaboration with the Malagasy Ministry of Health’s Direction de la Lutte des Maladies Non Transmissibles (DLMNT). La Chaîne de l’Espoir relies on the awareness-raising program and educational tools developed by the public authorities.
To mark World Oral Health Day, the Madagascan Ministry of Health and its partners organized Dental Week from March 19 to 21 in Fianarantsoa, in the Haute-Matsiatra region. As part of the event, La Chaîne de l’Espoir donated 1,000 hygiene kits to the DLMNT. These were distributed to 1,000 children in the region.
This region is one of the areas covered by the project to develop pediatric cardiac surgery in Madagascar. Over the next 3 years, we will continue to raise awareness of oral health and prevent heart disease among Malagasy communities in the Haute Matsiatra, Atsinanana and Boeny regions.
