In Nepal, La Chaîne de l’Espoir trains school nurses
In the fall of 2023, a volunteer nurse from La Chaîne de l’Espoir was in Nepal for a month-long training mission. Another volunteer nurse followed suit a few months later.
Objective: to enhance the skills of Nepalese nurses working in schools.
A lack of nursing training in Nepal
In partnership with local NGO Child Protection Centers and Services (CPCS), La Chaîne de l’Espoir runs 36 school-based health centers and several regional centers in Kathmandu’s Dolakha, Sindhuli and Morang districts. These structures are essential, especially outside Kathmandu, where health care is limited.
A volunteer nurse with La Chaîne de l’Espoir, Clémentine Girod spent a month there from September 2023, criss-crossing the Dolakha district.
During this mission, she set up training tools for the nurses working in these 36 schools.
“Our centers are well equipped, but there is a lack of nursing training in Nepal. Our mission is helping to develop these crucial skills to monitor children, diagnose disorders and pathologies, and detect cases requiring surgery.”

Regular missions for in-depth training
Echoing La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s desire to continue training Nepalese nurses, particularly those working in schools, Clémentine de Broucker, also a volunteer nurse with the association, took her turn to visit Dolakha.
Although the duration of her mission was shorter, it nevertheless enabled us to continue our work to enhance the skills of nurses in the health and reception centers, the idea being to carry out two missions a year to cover the different regions where the centers are located and, of course, to provide more in-depth training.
