9th Annual Scientific Conference in Kabul

Review of the 9th annual scientific conference of the French Medical Institute for Mother and Child in Kabul (IMFE)

On September 3, 2019, the IMFE annual conference took place in Kabul. The 9th edition of this international conference focused on access and quality of care for Afghans.

The event brought together over 300 participants, including the Afghan Minister of Public Health, Mr Ferozuddin Feroz, the President of La Chaîne de l’Espoir, Dr Eric Cheysson, the vascular surgeon from the Hôpital de la Pitié-Salpêtrière, Dr Jean-Michel Davaine, as well as representatives from ministries, the diplomatic community, AKDN agencies, national and international NGOs, civil society and healthcare providers.

Over 300 participants from all over the world

107 scientific papers were presented to participants from all over the world, covering topics such as healthcare governance, technology and innovation, maternal and child reproductive health and clinical practices.

Dr. Jean-Michel Davaine, keynote speaker, also presented an overview of the evolution of cardiovascular surgery worldwide. The aim is to develop vascular surgery at the IMFE thanks to the support over several years of volunteer doctors from La Chaîne de l’Espoir.

The conference aims to create a sustainable platform for discussion and networking between the scientific and medical communities and government officials. The platform aims to discuss, debate and share issues and measures relating to the science of healthcare.

Funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the Aga Khan Foundation, Global Affairs Canada and the IMFE, the conference also highlighted the progress made in medical care for Afghans, who are increasingly receiving treatment in their own country.
