11th West African D.E.S. seminar in pediatric surgery

The 11th teaching seminar for the West African pediatric surgery specialized study diplomas took place in Dakar, from June 17 to 22, 2019.
This seminar, co-organized and co-financed with La Chaîne de l’Espoir Belgique, provides additional training for D.E.S-CP students from the universities of Abidjan, Lomé, Cotonou, Dakar, Conakry and Ouagadougou.
The topics covered during this training session were: hepatobiliary pathology and axis deviations of the lower limbs.
Theoretical and practical courses for over 60 students
Around 60 student doctors and their professors of pediatric surgery from Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Benin, Togo, Guinea Conakry and Burkina Faso were present. Theoretical lectures were given, and the operating room procedures were broadcast live to the classrooms of the respective universities.
The La Chaîne de l’Espoir training team was made up of Pr Yann Révillon, from the Necker-Enfants malades hospital, La Chaîne de l’Espoir referent for pediatric visceral surgery, Dr Carmen Capito, pediatric visceral surgeon, and Belgian surgeon Pr Robert Elbaum, specialized in pediatric orthopedics. They were also accompanied by a Belgian IBODE nurse, Ms Christina Perez Falla.
