France: caring for sick children
Our actions in France have two main objectives: to welcome and operate on foreign children when they cannot be cared for in their own country, and to support isolated sick children during their stay in hospital. These objectives are achieved every year thanks to the commitment of numerous volunteers throughout France.
In 2022, our “Accompagnement des Enfants Hospitalisés” (AEH) program benefited 120 children in some 15 facilities in Île-de-France, La Réunion, Tours and, for the first time, Lyon. This strong growth can be explained by the program’s deployment in new locations, and the resumption of programs in facilities where they had been slowed down by the health crisis. A social impact assessment of the program, carried out by Agence Phare with the support of the MNH Foundation, highlighted the positive effects of the program, highlighting three main impacts: improved well-being of the child in relation to his or her day-to-day experience in hospital, overall improvement in the child’s healthcare pathway, and facilitation of the work of healthcare professionals.
“The day we parted was very touching, not only because I heard him say my first name for the first time, but above all because of the tender way he said goodbye with his eyes. I still admire his courage and wish him all the best for the future.”

Finally, a number of projects have also been developed in collaboration with certain intervention establishments, such as the fitting out of rooms or the purchase of equipment to entertain children and improve their well-being during hospitalization.
