Mariela, open-heart surgery in Madagascar

The health crisis had delayed her treatment, but little Samira successfully underwent surgery for her serious heart condition at Tours University Hospital. Thanks to you, she has regained her breath and can now lead the carefree life of a healthy child with her family in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

We’d like to thank you for being there to give her a new lease on life. Thank you for your unfailing support!

12/27/2019 – At 3 years old, Samira is exhausted.

Samira lives with both her parents in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Born with a severe heart defect, the 3-year-old needs open-heart surgery to survive.

Samira suffers from “Tetralogy of Fallot”, better known as “blue disease”. This disease groups together 4 abnormalities in the heart, causing the blood to take the wrong path through the body. Why do we say “blue disease”? Because, due to these anomalies, the blood doesn’t circulate normally in the lungs. This causes a bluish tint around Samira’s lips and fingertips.

Samira is constantly exhausted. After her exertions, she spontaneously adopts an attitude that seems to relieve her, bringing her knees to her abdomen to ease her breathing.

Mariela, open-heart surgery in Madagascar

Only open-heart surgery can cure her.

Unfortunately, the local doctors do not have the necessary skills or equipment to intervene.
She urgently needs to be transferred to France, where a medical team is ready to operate on her. A host family has already been mobilized to take her in throughout her treatment.

The delicate and complex operation is very costly, but with your support, we can save Samira and give her a second wind. Let’s work together!
