News from Sakina
09/23/2020 – Sakina finally takes a deep breath

Thanks to your unwavering support, little Sakina was able to undergo surgery in her home country, Burkina Faso, by Adama Sawadogo, a surgeon trained by La Chaîne de l’Espoir, and his team.
Although her operation had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, she is now safe and sound.
Sakina will be able to breathe a sigh of relief and live her life as a child with carefree abandon.
Sakina is a 5-year-old girl from Burkina Faso who was born with a heart defect: persistent ductus arteriosus.
This duct, essential to the life of a fetus that breathes through its mother, is supposed to close at birth after the first cry. In Sakina’s case, however, the duct has remained open and some of the blood is taking the wrong route. As a result, the little girl is short of breath and growing poorly.
