News from Bakary
02/09/2020 – Bakary is totally cured

Bakary was a “blue child”. He suffered from Tetralogy of Fallot. This quadruple cardiac anomaly prevented his heart from functioning normally and exhausted him.
Fortunately, your unconditional support made it possible to fund the vital open-heart surgery for the little boy.
Fearful and a little lost at the beginning of his stay, Bakary quickly calmed down and started to smile. From playtime to various activities, he never left his little cars, always having one in each hand, even when he went to sleep. He was able to return to his family in Mali, fully recovered.
Many thanks for helping us give him a new lease on life!
07/01/2019 – Bakary awaits life-saving operation

Bakary, aged 2, was born in Niono, a small village 340 km from Bamako, Mali. Bakary suffers from “Tetralogy of Fallot”, better known as “blue disease”.
This disease groups together 4 anomalies: hypertrophy of the right ventricle, displacement of the aorta, narrowing of the pulmonary artery and abnormal communication between the right and left ventricles. The latter 2 malformations are particularly serious: the blood cannot follow its natural route.
As a result, the blood takes the wrong route through the body, bypassing the lungs. The result is a bluish tint around Bakary’s lips and fingertips.
And above all, the little boy is constantly exhausted, and if he exerts himself for too long, he faints.
His only hope: to have open-heart surgery as soon as possible.
Bakary was seen in consultation by Prof Olivier Baron at the Centre André Festoc, the cardio-pediatric care unit we’ve just opened in Bamako. However, because of his low weight (9kg), it was too risky to operate on him on the spot.
His condition is too serious to wait for him to gain weight, so we have to rush him to France.
Once the necessary funds have been raised, Professor Baron will operate on him at the CHU in Nantes. And we’ve already found a host family to take him in. Thanks to your support, we’ll be able to save Bakary and give him a new lease of life.
