News from Amina

In Burkina Faso, little Amina's heart condition threatened her life.

Amina now has her whole life ahead of her!

Amina and her family can finally breathe again: the 6-year-old girl has been cured of her serious heart defect, which prevented her from leading a normal life and led to fears of the worst.

Your commitment enabled her to undergo surgery at the Tengandogo University Hospital in Ouagadougou, by Dr. Paul Neville and his team from the Tours University Hospital.

“Today, Amina is doing really well, her heart is mended! She can now play with her brothers and sisters and the neighborhood children. She still has regular follow-up appointments with the cardiologist, but she’s already off treatment. Her head is full of dreams. She even says she wants to be a doctor when she grows up!” Aissata Tall, Burkina Faso mission manager at La Chaîne de l’Espoir

Amina, 6, suffers from ventricular septal defect.

Amina is 6 years old, lives in Koudougou, Burkina Faso, and suffers from an interventricular septal defect. This serious heart defect means she can’t grow up like other children, and her family can’t see her future with any peace of mind…

We need to act fast…

Amina’s condition results from an incomplete septum between the heart’s two ventricles. This hole causes life-threatening complications: blood from the left ventricle mixes with that from the right, flooding her lungs…

Exhausted and constantly out of breath, Amina is no longer attending school due to the effects of her illness. This little girl has never tasted the joys of childhood!

Recently alerted to the urgency of the situation by his colleagues, Dr Adama Sawadogo, a cardiac surgeon trained by La Chaîne de l’Espoir, decided to place Amina under permanent medical supervision at the Tengandogo University Hospital.

An on-site operation is possible!

In Burkina Faso, the healthcare system is inadequate, and access to care is all the more difficult for the most disadvantaged. Amina’s parents, who are already struggling to meet the basic needs of the whole family, are unable to finance the vital operation on their sick daughter.

This operation represents an incompressible cost of 5,000 euros. That’s why we need your help. If each and every one of us does what we can, together we can save Amina.

Dr Paul Neville, a volunteer doctor with La Chaîne de l’Espoir, and his team from Tours University Hospital will soon be heading off on a mission to Burkina Faso to operate on a number of children. We would like to add Amina to the program.

Later on, Amina would like to be a doctor…
… but for the moment, she’s the one who needs it.

Together, we can change his destiny and help him realize his dream!
