Sponsorship for pediatric surgery with Orabank Togo
This year, La Chaîne de l’Espoir turns 30. Since 1994, it has been providing surgical care to vulnerable children suffering from a variety of pathologies. Thanks to the support of donors and sponsors, the organization is able to operate with complete flexibility and independence.
This is illustrated by the partnership forged with Orabank Togo, a committed banking institution.
The genesis of this sponsorship
With the arrival of Covid-19, many associations saw their funding dwindle, while needs, particularly in healthcare, increased. It was at this time that La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s Togo office began looking for both institutional and private funding at national level to finance its various activities. And so, in 2022, the partnership with Orabank Togo was born.
This is the first collaboration of its kind since the launch of La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s sponsorship activities in Togo.
The concrete achievements of this sponsorship action :
Missions for the management of brachial plexus injuries (2022 and 2023)
Through its financial support, Orabank Togo has helped to carry out missions to treat brachial plexus injuries. These injuries, which lead to partial or complete paralysis of the child’s arm, are most often the result of difficult childbirth.
These medical missions took place at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sylvanus Olympio (CHU SO), with technical support from Dr Philippe Valenti, a specialist surgeon and CDE volunteer, accompanied by his team from France.
During these missions, 80 children benefited from medical consultations and 38 were operated on.
A traveling surgical mission
(2024)
In addition to the missions for the medical management of brachial plexus injuries, Orabank Togo’s financial support contributed to the itinerant pediatric surgery mission that took place at the Tchamba Prefectural Hospital Center (CHP) from July 21 to 26, 2024.
233 children benefited from a medical consultation and 99 underwent surgery for various pathologies (hernias, hydroceles, club feet, cleft lip, etc.).
Following the example of previous itinerant missions, this mission, which took place in Tchamba, aimed to “delocalize” care to enable rural and isolated populations to be treated.
This itinerant mission was carried out with the support of French volunteer anaesthetists from La CDE, anaesthetic technicians from the CHU SO and Dr. Eudes Ulrich Goudjo, a former grant recipient from La Chaîne de l’Espoir and now a paediatric surgeon from Benin.
Once again, the main players in this mission – the 15th of its kind! – were the students of the Diplôme d’Études Spécialisées en Chirurgie Pédiatrique (DES-CP) attached to the CHU SO, who gained in experience and skills. Good news for the empowerment of Togolese medical teams and, by extension, for access to healthcare!
In total, Orabank Togo’s financial support to La CDE amounts to 8,159,570 CFA francs, or 12,439.19 euros. Over and above these very significant figures, this sponsor has made a positive difference to the lives of around a hundred children and their families. Many thanks to Orabank Togo for its support!
