Nary suffers from a serious heart defect

Nary is a 2-year-old boy from Madagascar. He was born with a serious heart defect: ventricular septal defect.

The first symptoms…

At 8 months old, Nary was in severe respiratory distress. He was hospitalized at the CHU de Soavinandriana for severe bronchiolitis. The doctors diagnose a heart defect: Nary suffers from ventricular septal defect.

Several months later, he was hospitalized again for bronchiolitis. He has trouble eating, cries when he eats, sweats a lot and is prone to fainting spells.

The CHU medical team alerts the parents to their son’s condition. Open-heart surgery is needed to treat Nary. Otherwise, the symptoms will worsen and endanger the little boy’s life.

Siamese twins Ketsia and Kimberly await much-needed surgery

Every day, Nary’s life is in danger

Ventricular septal defect is a heart condition that causes abnormal blood flow. The role of the heart is to circulate blood throughout the body. The first receives oxygenated blood and propels it through the body, while the second receives non-oxygenated blood and returns it to the lungs.

In Nary’s case, the wall separating these two parts of the heart is not watertight. As a result, everything mixes, blood floods his lungs, Nary is exhausted and his growth is stunted. The little boy is currently undergoing medical treatment, but it’s not enough.

Only open-heart surgery can save this child

Although La Chaîne de l’Espoir is working to develop heart surgery in Madagascar, local Madagascan teams are not yet able to operate on all children suffering from heart disease. The only option is for Nary to be transferred to France for surgery. Fortunately, the medical team at Tours University Hospital is ready to take Nary into its care.

The operation will cost €12,000, an impossible sum for Nary’s parents to raise – his dad is a chauffeur and his mom is a domestic help. We are counting on your generosity to bring them the vital help they so desperately need.

Thanks to your solidarity, we can save Nary.

Thank you in advance for your hope-filled gesture!

Together, let’s save Nary.
