Little Christian, aged 4, is out of breath
We’ll soon be in Ouagadougou for our next medical mission, an initiative to continue our efforts in Burkina Faso to treat children with heart defects.
Our commitment to children furthest from care is more crucial than ever, given the high number of children affected by heart problems in this West African country. Indeed, congenital heart disease is added to heart disease acquired as a result of unfavorable hygiene conditions, underlining the critical importance of our action.
The list of children whose lives are at risk continues to grow.
Dozens of children like Christian are waiting for our support. This 4-year-old boy, who lives with his parents in Bobo-Dioulasso, has been showing worrying symptoms since birth, including breathing difficulties and stunted growth.
After an accurate diagnosis at Souro Sanou Hospital, it was revealed that Christian suffers from Tetralogy of Fallot, a serious heart defect requiring urgent surgery to correct the abnormal blood flow.
Christian’s parents, unfortunately, don’t have the resources to fund life-saving surgery for their only son. They earn just enough to meet their daily needs from their modest fruit and vegetable business. For them, this situation is turning into an insurmountable drama, as the cost of the operation amounts to 5,000 euros.
An unthinkable sum for them!
Thanks to your generosity, Christian will be able to be operated on during the surgical mission led by Dr Paul Neville, pediatric cardiac surgeon at Tours University Hospital, who will operate with the support of Dr Adama Sawadogo and his local team trained by us.
For several years now, we’ve been caring for children in Burkina Faso, training surgeons and organizing medical missions. In 2021, we even carried out the first open-heart surgery in the country, a major achievement that inspires us to redouble our efforts.
To date, over 200 children in Burkina Faso have benefited from our work, including 70 last year alone. With you, Christian will have a chance of being saved!
