Leïla’s hernia is getting bigger by the day

In Djibouti, 5-year-old Leïla leads a different life from that of other girls her age.
Mariela, open-heart surgery in Madagascar

Her mother did not survive childbirth, and the little girl suffers from a severe congenital umbilical hernia.

A few months after birth, Leila’s intestine and liver burst through her abdominal wall. On the spot, she underwent an initial operation which proved insufficient: the little girl suffered from an increase in the volume of the hernia.

Leïla is not growing well, often withdrawn and crying. Time is running out, because if the hernia is strangled, her life will be at great risk. No medical treatment is possible, and only surgery can put an end to her suffering and save her!

Only in Djibouti, health infrastructures remain inadequate. Fortunately, there is hope: Leïla can be cared for by our friend Dr Khen-Dunlop, a pediatric visceral surgeon at Trousseau Hospital in Paris, and her team. A volunteer family from La Chaîne de l’Espoir is already ready to welcome her and accompany her during her treatment for as long as it takes.

To save Leïla, we need €10,000. This will cover the various costs associated with transferring the child, surgical procedures, hospitalization, consumables, etc. Her father’s income is too low to finance his daughter’s surgery. This is why we are appealing to your generosity.

Together, let’s start the year by saving Leila!
