In Togo, Anani and Dela, two convicted brothers

Anani and Dela share a heavy burden: both brothers suffer from Tetralogy of Fallot. It's a rare case: in fact, it's extremely unusual to observe this pathology within the same family.

What is tetralogy of Fallot?

Tetralogy of Fallot is a heart disease that causes poor blood circulation, resulting in the diffusion of unoxygenated blood throughout the body.

This pathology is also known as ” blue disease “, because children suffering from it have blue fingers and lips, a sign of a lack of oxygen.

Anani and Dela slowly wear out

Anani, the eldest son, has felt the first symptoms of the disease since early childhood. And lately, he’s been having recurrent dizzy spells. Seeing him short of breath at the slightest effort, the doctors initially thought it was asthma, but at 13, his condition is getting worse.

Despite his calm temperament, his little brother Dela felt tired all the time. Thanks to the principal of their school, who one day alerted their parents to their constant state of fatigue, they went to see a cardiologist at Lomé hospital.

Luckily, the Dr Baragou who received them happens to be the medical referent for La Chaîne de l’Espoir in Togo. He diagnosed both children and was able to quickly put them on our waiting list.

Siamese twins Ketsia and Kimberly await much-needed surgery

Double open-heart surgery can save them

This cardiac pathology has serious consequences for Anani and Dela: it weakens them more and more, leading to stunted growth… But above all, it puts their lives in danger!

In the absence of trained cardiac surgeons and a suitable technical platform in their country, Anani and Dela have to be cared for in France. Only open-heart surgery, scheduled quickly, can save their lives. The longer they wait, the shorter their life expectancy. The good news is that the Toulouse University Hospital could take them in, but this comes at a cost: 24,000 euros to enable the two brothers to undergo surgery. The mother, a seamstress, and the father, a carpenter, don’t have that kind of money.

We are counting on your generosity to bring them the vital help they so desperately need.

Together, let’s save Anani and Dela.
