Boehringer Ingelheim supports La Chaîne de l’Espoir

The Boehringer Ingelheim pharmaceutical company has been supporting our innovation program since 2019.

One of the world’s leading research-based pharmaceutical companies, the German Boehringer Ingelheim Group operates in 3 fields: human health, animal health and the manufacture of biopharmaceutical products on behalf of third parties. In France, the Group is present in the cities of Lyon and Toulouse.

One of the cornerstones of Boehringer Ingelheim’s identity is to serve humanity through research into diseases and the development of new medicines and therapies. The company is also committed to helping those most in need: in 2019, Boehringer Ingelheim has decided to support La Chaîne de l’Espoir by helping to finance our telemedicine program.

echoesCARDIO® and echoesGYN®: remote ultrasound scans

For the past 5 years, several La Chaîne de l’Espoir referral doctors in France have been offering remote ultrasound consultations to health centers in Africa and South-East Asia, on a weekly basis. The main aim of this program is to reinforce the skills and competencies of local medical staff on an ongoing basis, and to diagnose children remotely and in real time.

Setting up and deploying the Electronic Patient Record (EPR)

Since 2019, La Chaîne de l’Espoir has been working with Lyon-based start-up MEDEO on the gradual implementation of an Electronic Patient Record. This software records consultation diagnoses and medical information for all patients seen by La Chaîne de l’Espoir or via the echoes® platform. It enables data to be collected and analyzed, and promotes better patient follow-up.

Boehringer Ingelheim committed to our cause

Thanks to this new partnership, 20 echoesCARDIO® and 4 echoesGYN® sessions have taken place since the beginning of 2020. Local doctors have been able to get in touch with La Chaîne de l’Espoir experts in mainland France, La Réunion and the United States, to see over a hundred patients in consultation and to be accompanied in making the diagnosis. One session even took place in Mozambique, with a French expert on mission from Afghanistan. In all, 110 patients were seen and diagnosed. To take things a step further, initial tests in January and March connected Cambodia and Burkina Faso via echoes®. From now on, local doctors in these two countries will be able to benefit from remote ultrasound consultations.
