Afghanistan: women banned from university, a serious threat to maternal and child healthcare

Already excluded from secondary schools for girls (from sixth grade upwards), women are now forbidden to study at university.

All faculties are now closed to women. A few midwifery and nursing schools, run by private institutes, are surviving as best they can, with the last generation of girls able to pass their baccalaureate. We are stunned by this news, which will prevent the training of female doctors. Health professionals fear a veritable explosion in maternal and infant mortality.
