“Afghanistan, la spirale infernale”, the latest book by Dr Eric Cheysson
“Afghanistan, la spirale infernale” is a poignant and moving tribute to all those who have fought and are still fighting for freedom in Afghanistan. It is also a powerful plea for a country that deserves to be helped.
“Afghanistan, la spirale infernale” (Afghanistan, the infernal spiral): the cry from the heart of a French surgeon who has been fighting for forty years in Kabul.
A poignant and engaging account of Afghanistan’s recent history, from the departure of the Taliban in 2001 to their return on August 15, 2021.
The story begins on August 15, 2021, the day the Taliban took power in Afghanistan. The authors interweave, blend and link the stories of people from very different backgrounds, but who have in common the fact that they experienced this day as a turning point.
“He [Éric Cheysson] enthusiastically recounts his first trip to Afghanistan, in February 1980, after the Soviet invasion. The nights he spent walking, treating people in the mountains. He was just 28 years old, and would soon become one of the “French doctors”. Forty-three years later, Éric Cheysson, a cardiovascular surgeon, still has the country firmly in his heart.
Le Parisien
This book is the testimony of a historical and political part of Afghanistan; but it is also the story of a deep friendship between an Afghan surgeon, Najeebullah Bina, and Éric Cheysson, a French surgeon who has been working in Afghanistan for 40 years; this friendship materialized in the success of their joint project, the creation and opening of the French Medical Institute for Mother and Child (IMFE) in Kabul.
“Afghanistan, la spirale infernale” is a poignant and moving tribute to all those who have fought and are still fighting for freedom in Afghanistan. It is also a powerful plea for a country that deserves to be helped.
